PUNTA GORDA — The deafening roar heard Tuesday afternoon around the Punta Gorda Airport was not an earthquake, but rather the unmistakable sound of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds performing some aerial acrobatics for spectators.

Circling the airport, the seven F-16C Fighting Falcons had just arrived from MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa, a 100-mile trip that took just eight minutes, for the 34th Annual Florida International Air Show, to be held this coming weekend.
