DEEP CREEK — Every morning, Ron Oakes keeps tabs of Interstate 75 traffic conditions — without ever leaving his home. Over breakfast, Oakes looks out from his “morning room” and gets a firsthand traffic report of the cars whizzing by his home in Port Charlotte Village.
However, he and many of his neighbors in the 435-unit mobile home park had a surprising reaction to the planned expansion of I-75 to six lanes, from the Peace River Bridge north to the Charlotte-DeSoto County line.
