A total of 11 candles were lit during a Holocaust remembrance service at the Church of the Good Shepherd Sunday. The candles represent the 11 million people killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust.

PUNTA GORDA — Steen Metz did not have a normal childhood.

The 78-year-old seasonal resident of Sanibel started his youth with his family in Denmark, but all of that changed forever one October day in 1943.
