Remapping the coast

Contracted engineers for the Federal Emergency Management Agency are determining flood elevations throughout Charlotte County.

Ultimately, FEMA will recalibrate flood maps all along the Florida coastline and up the Eastern Seaboard. Any new maps and redetermination of existing flood zones will not go into effect for several years, possibly not until 2018, according to county officials.
