Charlotte County opts out

CHARLOTTE COUNTY — When Ambitrans Medical Transport came to Charlotte County in 1988, Medicaid paid a base rate of about $17 per hour. For years, the company provided wheelchair and non-medical stretcher services to low-income Medicaid recipients, but as costs escalated the reimbursement rate remained unchanged.

Eventually, Ambitrans cut back on providing this service. And now, due to the state eliminating funding for the program, Charlotte County also is getting out of the Medicaid transport business.
