PUNTA GORDA — When the call came in over the radio as a domestic disturbance around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, responding Punta Gorda Police Officer Lee Coel didn’t know what to expect.

A man had called 911, and his wife reportedly was threatening to kill herself. The couple’s car was stopped in the median on northbound U.S. 41 near Monaco Drive in Punta Gorda, and they were with their two young children.
