SARASOTA COUNTY — A 12th Judicial Circuit judge sentenced Janeene Jones, the so-called “Black Widow,” to life in prison on Tuesday for trying to hire an assassin to kill her husband and another man for $8,000 last year.

Judge Donna Padar Berlin’s decision was influenced heavily by a 20-minute video shown during Jones’ sentencing hearing at the Sarasota County Justice Center, in which she recruited a hit man and helped him to plan the murders of Matthew Smith, now her ex-husband; and John Chamberlain, who was working for Jones at the time.
