Share this story:

A Mercedes ended up in a canal Wednesday on Monterey Lane in North Port, after North Port Police pursued and later arrested man who received a 7-pound shipment of marijuana in the mail. Joshua Hearns, 27, of the 3400 block of Kacher Drive, North Port, was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, resisting arrest, fleeing and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. A report states police intercepted the marijuana delivery then tracked the package after Hearns picked it up. Police tried to pull him over, but he fled the scene, and police had to take evasive action to avoid being struck by Hearns’ vehicle. He bailed out of the car after a short chase, and the Mercedes went into the canal. Hearns was not injured, and was placed under arrest. He remains at the Sarasota County Jail on $150,000 bond.
