The Rev. Brian James, pastor, reads the vows to Robert Moran and his bride, Jamie. Staff on the Fawcett Memorial Hospital unit caring for Robert offered to host a small wedding and reception in Robert’s room, and coordinated everything from flowers and balloons from the gift shop, to dinner, cake and champagne from the culinary staff.

PORT CHARLOTTE — As a major local hospital with a wide array of surgeries performed every day, you could say Fawcett Memorial Hospital is in the heart-healing business.

But this past week, staff pulled off a very special operation — merging two hearts into one.
