Donald “Don” Lee Behnke, 78, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Carp Lake, Mich., went to be with his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy, and our Heavenly Father Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.

He was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Detroit, Mich., to Theodore and Edna Behnke.

Don received his GED from Cooley High School, Detroit, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He and Nancy moved to Carp Lake in 1968 and became the owner/operator of the Maples Resort and Antique Shop. As an entrepreneur he had a passion for collecting old treasures for his shop.

Don will be greatly missed by his son, Karl (Debbie) Behnke; daughters, Dawn (Vance) Rhew and Deborah (Bob) Fischer; sister Barbara (Ken) Steele; grandchildren, Robert, Michael, Kimberly and Kristina; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at First Alliance Church, 20444 Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte FL 33952.
