Hugh Everett “Smitty” Smyth, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte.
He was born March 15, 1933, in Lansing, Mich., to Hugh and Christine (nee Jones) Smyth.
Hugh moved to Florida from Pellston, Mich. He was the former Superintendent of the Pellston School System.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Linda (nee Clear) Smyth; son, Gregory (Theresa) Smyth of Port Charlotte; three daughters, Kelly (Dale) Hibbert of South Lyon, Mich., Wendy (Jim) Ingalls of Germantown, Tenn., and Lisa (Mark) Halverson of Okemos, Mich.; two stepsons, Dennis Phillips of Dundee, Mich., and Randy Phillips of Oshkosh, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Tina Hessel of Pellston, and Yvonne (Nick) Burguess of Fort Wayne, Ind.; brother, Robert Smyth of Haslett, Mich.; sister, Malinda Haindell of Charlotte, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Smyth of Chippewa, Mich.
