Sherrell J. Magnant, 76, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was born April 1, 1937, in Providence, R.I., to Elmer R. and Muriel V. (nee Kettelle) Smith.
Sherrell moved from Narragansett, R.I., to Sarasota, Fla., before settling in Punta Gorda in 1997. She was a member and President of the North Kingstown Fire Belles, and served as member of the Narragansett Zoning Board of Review.
Sherrell is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Joseph N. Magnant; son, James D. (Kathleen) Magnant; grandchildren, Jacob C. Magnant and Christopher J. Magnant; brother, Barry M. (Eleanor) Smith of North Kingstown, R.I.; and several nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, Sherrell was preceded in death by her eldest son, Joseph N. Jr., in 2004.
A Committal service, followed by interment, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sherrell’s name to Tidewell Hospice House of Port Charlotte, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
