Elizabeth England “Betty” O’Leary, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, while vacationing with her family in Sarasota, Fla.
Betty retired as Aquatics Director at the Jewish Community Center in Williamsville, N.Y., and as a New York State Swim Official in 1985 at which time she and Jim O’Leary boarded their sailboat and continued to live aboard for the next 14 years until Jim’s cancer diagnosis.
Betty is survived by her four children, David O’Leary and Alice McClenahan of New Orleans, La., Barbara Emerson of Tampa Fla., and Sam O’Leary of Jacksonville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Gordon, Jim and Brian O’Leary of New Orleans, Elizabeth O’Leary of Jacksonville, Allison and Chuck Emerson of Tampa and Kelley McClenahan of New Orleans; and two great-grandchildren, Conner and Vivienne O’Leary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James O’Leary.
A memorial service will be held at Emerald Pointe in Punta Gorda in February.
