H. Raymond “Ray” Galpin, 85 1/2, of Punta Gorda, Fla., went to his heavenly home Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014.
He was born June 12, 1928, in Oak Park, Ill.
Raymond was a plastics engineer, retiring from Illinois Tool Works in Chippewa Falls, Wis., in 1995, at which time he moved to sunny Florida. He was always an outdoors enthusiast, with all water activities, and he was very active at swimming, hockey, speed skating, kayaking, dragon boat racing, rollerblading, sailing and boating. Raymond was a member of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith (nee Botsford) Galpin; sons, Michael of Austin,Texas, Thomas of Decatur, Ill., and David of Payson, Ariz; daughter, Susan (Jeffrey) Sams of Decatur; he was blessed to have 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Violet (nee Duke) and Raymond Frank Galpin; sister, Marilyn Wegner; and wife, Estelle Ruth “Pat” (Thoen) Galpin.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Burnt Store Presbyterian Church.
