Lena Carol Mullins, 63, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
She was born Oct. 29, 1950, in Pike County, Ky.
Lena spent her childhood in Forest Hills, Ky., and was a longtime resident of North Port, Fla. She was the daughter of Earnest Mullins of Caney Creek, Ky., and Onie Ledford Mullins Varney of North Port and Forest Hills. She was a hairdresser for 37 years, both in Florida and Ohio. Lena was a Christian who loved working in the church in many capacities, serving on various committees. She wasn’t well enough to attend church for the last few years, but she always had her faith to get her through all the rough times.
Lena is survived by her brothers, Michael (Darlene) Mullins of Vermilion, Ohio, and Larry (Dimple) Varney of Shelbyville, Ky.; sister, Judy Mullins Martin of Clermont, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and her beloved dog, a pug named Bubba. She was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Cornett of Avon Lake, Ohio; three brothers, Ralph Varney of Pike County, Ky., Jack Varney of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Paul Lester (Sonny) Varney; nephew, Earnest Mullins; great-nephew, Michael Mullins II; her parents; and stepdad, Ralph Varney Sr. of Forest Hills.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at her cousins, Wayne and Judy Rose’s, home in Arcadia, Fla. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Kentucky.
Arrangements were made in Port Charlotte.
