Geraldine Ann “Gerry” Frey, 82, of Clinton Twp., N.J., passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born March 21, 1931, in Central Islip, N.Y., and had resided in Clinton Twp., for 14 years moving from Dover, N.J., where she had lived for 47 years.

Mrs. Frey was the daughter of John and Bridget (nee McSharry) Johnston. She was a Registered Nurse at the Dover General Hospital in Dover, retiring in 1984. Gerry received her Diploma in Nursing at the Mary Immaculate School of Nursing in Jamaica, N.Y. Gerry was a talented artist who created beautiful oil paintings, decorated elaborate cakes, crocheted baby blankets, and was an avid gardener. Memberships include Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Rosary Society and the Women’s Club of Port Charlotte, Fla., where she served as President.

Survivors include her husband, of 62 years, Leo J. Frey Jr.; one son, Leo J.(Jeanette) Frey III of Clinton Twp.; one daughter, Jackie (Paul) Smith of Windsor Locks, Conn.; five grandchildren, Anna Curtis, Vickie McShane, Gwen Bishop, Tim Smith, and Jenny Frey; six great-grandchildren, Lilla Bishop, Tommy Bishop, Genevieve Smith, Abbie McShane, William Smith, and Finn McShane; one brother, Jack (Ginny) Johnston of Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother-in-law Michael (Alida) Frey Newburyport, Mass. Mrs. Frey was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia M. Frey, in June 2012.

Calling hours were held Monday March 10, 2014, at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, Lebanon, N.J. In lieu of flowers, please send Mass Cards. The family requests that no perfumes, colognes, or scents be worn to the viewing or funeral due to allergies. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ 08801. Interment will be private at the St. John of God Cemetery in Central Islip, N.Y.
