Donald Alfred Fournier

Donald Alfred Fournier, 79, of Punta Gorda, Fla., went to be with the Lord, Monday, March 10, 2014.

He was born Sept. 2, 1934, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to Alfred and Angeline (nee Desrocher) Fournier.

Donald served in the U.S. Army. He married Rita Lemieux on Oct. 20, 1956, in Orleans, Vt. He moved to Florida 23 years ago, after retiring from Pratt Whitney in North Haven, Conn., after 35 years. Donald was a member of the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the Eagles, and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and had enjoyed being a longtime choir member.

Donald is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Rita Fournier; sons, Mark (Denise) Fournier and Eric (Christina) Fournier; daughter, Sandra (Denis) Gamble, all of Connecticut; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and three sisters, Patricia Gingue of Florida, Yvette Poliquin of California, and Jeannette Skinner of Texas. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; and daughter, Sheila.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. till 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda. Inurnment will be at a later date at St John’s Cemetery in Wallingford, Conn.
