Gerald Byron “Jerry” Morley, 76, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Goldsboro, N.C., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, after a short illness, at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte.
Jerry was born June 8, 1937, in Lansing, Mich., the son of Glendon Payne and Ruth Marion (nee Baxter) Morley.
After his retirement in 1973, he moved to Goldsboro, and in 2003, he moved to Port Charlotte. Jerry spent 20 years in the United States Navy. A Veteran who served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he traveled to over 42 Islands and Countries during and after his Naval Career.
Jerry is survived by two sons, Anthony Lee (Michele) Morley I of Venice, Fla., and Brian Keith (Laureen) Morley of Mystic, Conn.; two daughters, Marion Elizabeth “Beth” Degnan of Port Charlotte, and Diana Lynn Sanches of Goldsboro; sisters, Janet Sue (Chuck) Bumstead of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Joanne Marion (Robert) Garland of Lansing, Mich.; brother, Jon (Sharon) Morley of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Shane Patrick Morley, Dustin Lee Waters, Anthony Lee Morley II, Tiffani Marie Sanches, Joshua Clarence Morley and Stephen James Mahoney-Morley; aunt, Norma Wirick; uncle, Ed Eldridge; brother-in-law, Harold Jablenski Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Sonshine Baptist Church in Port Charlotte. A private interment will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens in Venice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s name to the Sonshine Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 23105 Veterans Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33954.
