Bessolene Clark Conroy

Bessolene “Bess” Clark Conroy, 93, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at her home in North Fort Myers, Fla.

She was born March 25, 1920, in Winfield, Ala., moving to North Fort Myers in 1962 from Jacksonville, Fla.

Bess was a homemaker, and also worked in the family business, Conroy’s Garden Center, in Cape Coral, Fla. She also helped to operate the Conroy Ranch. Bess enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking care of her family’s needs. She was a member of the Lakeland Order of Eastern Star. Bess was a member of Gardner Baptist Church in Gardner, Fla.

She is survived by her two sons, John A. (Linda) Conroy III of Zolfo Springs, Fla., and James “Jim” (Marla) Conroy of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother-in-law, Jack Pooser of Arcadia, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jay Ryan Conroy, John Corey Conroy, Chris Miles, Lauren Miles, Shannon Boswell, Lorianne Lowers and Jolie Wilson; nine great-grandchildren; four nieces, Sarah Faye McClure, Yvonne Clark, Bobbie Sue Clark and Jimmie Nell Clark; and two nephews, Bill Weeks and James Thomas Weeks. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and love of her life, retired Florida Highway Patrol District Commander John A. Conroy Jr., on Aug. 24, 2006; her parents, James and Alice Gregg Clark; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be conducted from 11 a.m. until noon today, Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, FL 34266. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at Gardner Baptist Church in Gardner. Burial will be at Gardner Cemetery.
