Sarah Louise “Sally” (nee Snell) Opela passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, from complications of heart failure and pneumonia.
She was born in 1928, and grew up in the Irwin and Manor suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Sarah was married to Charles “Chuck” Opela in June 1945, and they were stationed in Texas and Colorado, before moving to Arlington Heights (suburb of Chicago), Ill., for 20 years. Chuck and Sally relocated to their beloved Port Charlotte, Fla., in 1976. Sarah was semiretired from Opela Enterprises Inc. — a local company established and operated by them since 1982. She was active in the community and enjoyed traveling — especially overseas, in Europe, South America, the Caribbean, Canada, and, of course, one of her favorite activities, visiting friends and family all over the USA. Sarah got great satisfaction from and loved working with her church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, and was also a church Elder for many years. Sarah was also very active in the church’s “Women’s Circle.” She will be greatly missed by her family and friends!
Survivors include her sons, Randy and Todd (Jean) of Port Charlotte; daughter, Mia of Oakland, Calif.; grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, Heidi, Lindsey, Devin, Chase, Max and Julia; two great-grandchildren, with another on the way; and, of course, her beloved Siamese cat, Ella. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, in 2003; and her brothers, Earl and Raymond.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet St., Port Charlotte. Donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County in Port Charlotte, via http://awlshelter.org.
