Charles J. Christesen, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in Port Charlotte.
He was born May 31, 1929, in New York City, N.Y., to Charles N. Christesen and Marie Koza Christesen.
Charles came to Port Charlotte from Long Island, N.Y., in 2010. He was a Pharmacist and owner of Salem Drugs, located in Port Washington, N.Y., for many years, before his retirement. He was a member of Fordham Alumni, AMVETS, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 until 1948. Charles attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
He is survived his wife of 61 years, Marlene of Port Charlotte; his daughter, Sheryl (Bob) Tighe of Easton, Pa.; two sons, Steven (Robin) Christesen of Port Charlotte, and Scott (Janet) Christesen of Huntington, N.Y.; two sisters, Joan (Jack) Conroy of Naples, Fla., and Rosalie Mayrose of Chicago, Ill.; brother, John Christesen of New York; and six grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Donald (Ermine) Christesen of New Fairfield, Conn.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a scripture service at 7 p.m., today, Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte.
