Faye M. Austin, 87, a lifelong resident of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Wednesday April 23, 2014.

She was born May 30, 1926, the daughter of Percy and Elsie (nee Mauck) Whitehurst.

Faye was the first nurse at the newly formed community hospital in Punta Gorda, and faithfully worked there for 40 years. She served on the board for American Cancer Society and was honored as a top fund raiser in 1984. Faye loved spending time with her family, and living in Punta Gorda. She also enjoyed reading and singing.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Huellen Randolph; son-in-law, Morgan Randolph; granddaughter, Kristi Randolph; nieces, Robin Raulerson, and Dannette Haas, and family; and nephew, Stacy Raulerson, and family. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, of 29 years, George “Keith” Austin.

A celebration of Faye’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at New Life Family Worship. Memorial donations may be made to the church at 28330 Bermont Rd, Punta Gorda, FL 33982. To express condolences to the family, please visit and sign the online guestbook.
