Jean (nee Gray) Peters, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Bayfront Health Punta Gorda, Fla.

She was born Feb. 15, 1928, in London, England.

Jean traveled to Venezuela, South America, in 1950, at the age of 22, to work for Shell Oil Company. She met her future husband Albert N. Peters on a blind date in Caracas, Venezuela. They were married Sept. 21, 1952, and lived in Venezuela until their retirement to Punta Gorda in 1975. In retirement, Jean enjoyed playing bridge, square-dancing and traveling.

She is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 62 years, Albert; sons, Gregory (Monique) of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Mark (Susan) of Punta Gorda; grandchildren, Scott and Jennifer Peters, and Trisha (Erik); and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Frederick and Millie Gray, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Peters, in 1999.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be appreciated in memory of Jean Peters to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Punta Gorda.

The family would like to thank Jean’s caretakers, Yvonne Hayes and Maureen Grinam, whom lovingly cared for Jean at her home in Punta Gorda since June 2013. They also would l ike to thank Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte.
