Ralph D. Oltmann, 87, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Fla

He was born July 3, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Henry Oltmann and Anna Berger Oltmann.

Ralph came to Punta Gorda in 1972 from the Poconos Mountain area of Pennsylvania. He was a building contractor for many years before his retirement. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Punta Gorda, a member of the American Legion Post 103 of Punta Gorda, and the VFW of Charlotte Harbor, Fla., and an avid fisherman. Ralph served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 75th Infantry in the Rhineland campaign and Central Europe campaign, receiving the Bronze Star. Ralph was a 30-year Master Gardner.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores of Punta Gorda; his three sons, Rick (Linda) Oltmann of Port Charlotte, Larry Oltmann of Punta Gorda, and Steve (Yvonne) Oltmann also of Punta Gorda; his daughter, Linda Frantz of Punta Gorda; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church 4005 Palm Drive. Punta Gorda, with burial at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla., with military honors. Please visit the online tribute for Ralph D.
