John Tobola, 89, died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born May 16, 1925, in Chicago, Ill.
John was a World War II-era U.S. Army veteran, and served honorably in the Pacific Theater of Operations in New Guinea, the Philippine Islands and Japan, from 1944 to 1946.
He was married to Inez (nee Balducci) Tobola from Sept. 6, 1947, until her death in May 2004. He was an avid amateur historian, having read extensively on U.S. history in general, and the Civil War, specifically. He enjoyed many hobbies over the years, and particularly loved taking numerous driving trips, long and short, with the love of his life, Inez.
John was a proud member of the American Legion, Chicago Journeymen Plumber’s Union Local 130 since 1947, and was a lifetime NRA member and master-class pistol shooter, winning hundreds of awards for target shooting.
He is survived and sorely missed by his three children, Christine, Jean and John; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
