George J. Siener, 93, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014.
He was born June 25, 1921, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and lived in Harbour Heights, Fla., since 1985.
George graduated from Niagara Falls HS and from Purdue University as a Mechanical Engineer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II in Europe, then was called back to serve in the Korean War, retiring as a Captain. He was married for 70 years to Ruth Vandermeulen Siener of Buffalo, N.Y., who preceded him in death May 23, 2013. George retired as General Superintendent of Republic Steel in Buffalo in 1981.
He was a longtime member of the Punta Gorda Country Club (now the Port Charlotte Golf Club), the American Legion, the Harbour Heights Civic Association and the Harbour Heights Yacht Club. George also enjoyed tennis, bridge, golf, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his brother, Richard Siener of Harbour Heights; daughters, Beth (Lester) Kuhn of Harbour Heights, and Nancy (Ronald) Strack of Harbour Heights; sons, Thomas Siener of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Mark (Mary) Siener of Blasdell, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Knight of North Tonawanda, N.Y.
He will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service/luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Deep Creek Elks Lodge 2763, 1133 Capricorn Blvd., Deep Creek (Punta Gorda), Fla.
