Barbara Ann Parker, 71, a Punta Gorda, Fla., resident, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven Thursday, July 31, 2014; her lifelong love, Thomas Parker Sr., was with her at the time of her passing.

Barbara, born Dec. 24, 1942, was raised in Punta Gorda.

She began her life as a fisherman’s daughter. At the tender age of 16, she married Thomas W Parker Sr., with whom she shared 56 beautiful years. Together, they traveled throughout the United States, North to Alaska, and South to Mexico. She loved children, reading, fishing, traveling, spending time with family, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was the ultimate definition of a “homemaker” — cooking and cleaning like no other. Her entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of Parker’s Sod and Services (the oldest established sod company in Charlotte County, Fla.) and Mother Goose Preschool. She was known for her infectious laugh and radiant ability to love deeply.

Barbara is survived by her spouse, Thomas W. Parker Sr.; her children, Thomas Parker Jr., Rebecca (nee Parker) Cope, Ben Parker, Missty (nee Parker) Gluck, David Parker, and their spouses; along with 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Berry Joe Parker; her parents, Ben and Norma (nee Driggers) Jones; brothers, Ralph, Reggie, Ben and Lonnie Jones; as well as her mother-in-law, Gladys (nee Wood) (Parker) Rossbach, whom she loved greatly.

She will be missed dearly.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Freedom Bible Church, 500 Sable St., Port Charlotte, Fla., followed by a graveside service at Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda. Following the burial service, all are invited to join in for food and remembrance of this most precious woman at Betty Sloat’s home, 1024 Scott Ave., Punta Gorda.

Flowers may be sent to Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 2405 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte. They then will deliver the items to Freedom Bible Church for the services.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte Chapel.
