MURDOCK — A liquor store clerk was fired and then arrested Thursday after stealing an overwhelming amount of scratch-off tickets from the place where she worked, according to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s report.
The owner of Save-a-Lot Liquor Store in Murdock recently received notice from the Florida Lottery that an unusually high amount of scratch-off tickets was being sold at his store. The owner investigated and learned the spike in such sales — which were of $20 tickets — occurred over “the past few months” on days when Debra Margaret Smith was the only employee in the store, the report shows. He reviewed video from the store, and found she was stealing, according to the report.
