PORT CHARLOTTE — An Arcadia man driving around Port Charlotte just before 11:15 p.m. Tuesday called 911 to report that a van in front of him was running stop signs. But as it turns out, the occupants in the van were actually fleeing from the man, who had just threatened them with a knife, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy pulled the van over in the area of Conway Boulevard and Gibralter Drive because it had a headlight out, and a male and female inside explained they were being chased. That’s when William Lamar Spiller, 26, sped by in a Ford Mustang, refusing orders to stop because he didn’t have on a seat belt, the report shows. Shortly thereafter, the driver called 911 back and agreed to meet the deputy.
