PORT CHARLOTTE — A man has been cited for careless driving after crashing into the back of a stopped police car just before midnight Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Cody James Miller, 22, of Punta Gorda, was driving his Ford Ranger pickup south on U.S. 41 — just before Bayshore Road — when he struck a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Ford Crown Victoria, which was parked in the inside lane with its lights on, the report shows. Deputy Christopher Hartmanstorfer — who was not in his car when it was hit — was helping move a disabled vehicle from the roadway. The FHP report shows “(Miller) failed to observe the stopped emergency vehicle stopped directly ahead of him.”
