PORT CHARLOTTE — A man allegedly ran a stop sign Wednesday afternoon in front of the wrong person — an off-duty deputy, to whom the man made an obscene hand gesture. The decision ultimately led to jail time.

A Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputy in his personal vehicle saw a man — later identified as Brennon Tyler Osborne, 18 — drive a Nissan 300ZX through a stop sign near U.S. 41 and Conway Boulevard around 2:15 p.m., the report shows. Working authorities were notified, and the off-duty deputy followed Osborne into a nearby parking lot. Osborne allegedly was driving carelessly and gave the middle finger to the off-duty deputy.
