PORT CHARLOTTE — Port Charlotte (2-3) came within one swing of ending Charlotte’s undefeated season, but the Tarpons (7-0) got the ground ball they needed to hang on for an 8-7 win.

Both teams scored four runs in a wild seventh inning. With Charlotte leading 4-3, the Tarpons strung together three bunt singles, two walks and another hit to open up an 8-3 lead. Most of the bunts were intended to be sacrifices but turned into hits when the Pirates misplayed a couple of opportunities for outs.
