NORTH PORT — While some may label Venice softball’s 2018 campaign as a rebuilding year, on Tuesday night the Indians freshmen showed they’re more than ready to replace their predecessors.

Led by six-plus innings from freshman starting pitcher Becca Mellor and backed by two homers from freshman Kayleigh Roper, Venice (4-4) had no trouble pulling away with the 9-2 win in 7A-11 District play at North Port High School.
