VENICE — After suffering two blowout losses in the regular season, Port Charlotte High School took Venice to the brink of an upset before the Indians rallied for a 6-3 victory in a District 6A-11 semifinal Tuesday night.

Trailing 1-0 after four innings, the Pirates took advantage of wildness by Venice pitcher Nikkie Kovalsky to take the lead. Kiki Manorig singled with one out, and Kovalsky walked Kali Barnhill and Brianna Burkhart before hitting Kristy Lowe with a pitch to force in the tying run. Maria Suarez delivered a two-run single to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead.
