The rational mind says 90 minutes of scoreless soccer is perfectly acceptable for the United States today.
When all you need is a draw to advance — and the same holds true for the German side the U.S. will face — that would seem to set the stage for a game that could pass for an elaborate walkthrough. Kick the ball back and forth, run around a bit, don’t get anyone hurt and start preparing for the knockout rounds.
