The sale of medical marijuana in Arcadia is on hold.
On the second (and final) reading, City Council on Tuesday voted to prohibit the dispensing of medical marijuana inside city limits. Council’s approval of Ordinance 1029 stops doctors from setting up shop and recommending medical marijuana to their patients. Arcadia acted because Florida allows medical marijuana dispensaries to operate much the same as a pharmacy, said City Manager Terry Stewart, meaning a pot dispensary could open on every street corner. Until cities such as Arcadia can regulate these dispensaries, such ordinances prohibiting them will continue, Stewart said. “It’s better to protect ourselves than regret it later,” he said in comments before council’s unanimous adoption of the ordinance.
