This time next year, members of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office may be training in a new, fully protected gun range with walls and ceilings to block any stray bullets from flying out. On Tuesday, the Charlotte County Commission voted to award a $4.9 million contract for the construction of the sheriff’s gun range to A2 Group, Inc.
The range has come under fire in the past for shots allegedly causing damage to adjacent properties. The county is still involved in litigation with Lerner Real Estate, the asset manager of the nearby Waterford Estates development, who claims bullet fragments from the range had been flying onto undeveloped home sites.
