Charlotte County Fire Station 10, located on Palm Island, faced a delay Tuesday after Charlotte County commissioners decided further discussion on site selection is needed before awarding a contract for a new station.
The station was added to the county’s list of capital improvement projects last year due to major deficiencies in the existing facility, which cannot be renovated, County Facilities Director David Milligan said at the time. Located on a barrier island, the 3,200-square-foot station has unique needs, including the structural capacity to withstand storms and wave action and access to a second story, since land on the island is at a premium.
