PORT CHARLOTTE — A Port Charlotte man who lost his wallet discovered that someone had tried to charge hundreds of dollars in gift card purchases on two of his missing credit cards. The victim reported that he last remembered having his wallet when he paid for his meal at a local restaurant on the evening of Jan. 30. When he woke the next morning and couldn’t find his wallet, the man discovered that someone had tried to use at least two of his credit cards. According to bank records, one of the cards had been used four times at a local Walgreens and a local CVS.

The first transaction happened at about 3 a.m. Jan. 31 when a woman dressed in blue jeans and a brown UMASS sweatshirt bought gift cards totaling more than $200. At about 6 a.m., the same woman wearing the same clothing tried to purchase more than $300 worth of gift cards. Those transactions did not clear. Economic Crimes detectives obtained video from the transaction at the local CVS store. Anyone with information on the identity of the woman in the video is asked to please call the Sheriff’s Office at 941-639-2101 (ask for Economic Crimes), or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
