The Punta Gorda Police Department is investigating a theft from Shorty's Place, a popular Punta Gorda pub. Someone was caught on a security camera swiping an American flag off the wall (the blank spot pictured here) and walking out early Friday. Owner Sheryl "Shorty" Peters had been given the flag 33 years ago by a high school friend, who since has passed. Shorty is seeking help in recovering the sentimental item.

PUNTA GORDA — Shorty’s Place will celebrate its third anniversary this June. Sheryl “Shorty” Peters and her husband David have successfully turned the 32-tap craft and domestic brew pub into a popular hangout.

Patrons are welcomed with a warm, homey feeling inside the bar, which is outfitted with many personal touches from the owners. That includes a 4-by-6-foot American flag Shorty was given as a gift 33 years ago from a friend with whom she graduated high school in Arkansas. That friend has passed away, but the flag hangs in a newly opened pool room at Shorty’s Place.
