PUNTA GORDA — Local businessman and landowner Robert “Bucky” McQueen has turned down a deal with the city that involved swapping land he owns at the south end of Punta Gorda Isles — where a proposed cut-through would be built, giving boaters in that community quicker access to Charlotte Harbor — for city-owned property on Taylor Road.

Last month, the City Council, in a narrow 3-2 vote, agreed to move ahead with negotiations on a land-swap deal that was contingent on McQueen transferring ownership of his 9.5-acre property near the end of Sea Edge Drive — and a smaller parcel near the intersection of Bal Harbor Boulevard and Albatross Drive — in exchange for roughly 2 acres of city land on Taylor Road.
