Motorists traveling northbound on U.S. 41 may have noticed a banner on King Street announcing a new restaurant called Downtown Gatorz coming to that location. It is no joke — the new owners, Doug Harris, Paul Russo, Juan Villegas and Mark Spieldenner, are planning to bring the award-winning wings and sauces to downtown Punta Gorda by opening their doors to a 5,000-square-foot building the second week of December.
“This location has changed hands a lot of times over the past few years,” Doug Harris, former owner of Good Times II Lounge and Aqui Esta Liquors, explained. “But our place is different. We will have a full kitchen, a full liquor license, not just beer and wine, and live entertainment. Televisions will be lining the walls, inside and out, so people can watch their favorite sports teams. There will be pool tables and vending machines for the kids. We will definitely have that atmosphere that a lot of people are looking for when they want to sit down to have something to eat and drink.”
