Doug Amaral, the owner of River City Grill, is excited to reach the decade mark with his downtown restaurant.

River City Grill is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Dec. 7, and half the proceeds from that night’s activity will go to the same charity owner Doug Amaral donated to after his restaurant’s opening night — Punta Gorda Police Department’s Do the Right Thing program.

Amaral definitely deserves the right to celebrate. Just reaching that milestone is a worthy enough achievement, since few restaurants around here last that long. More significantly, and this may not be understood by people who haven’t lived here for long, it’s a chance, and almost an obligation, for residents to stop by and say thank you and good luck in the future to the guy who stepped up to help change our downtown from a dead zone to the vibrant restaurant and bar destination it is today.
