Most of us will never know what it’s like to have the kind of money that circus magnate John Ringling had in his day, but a visit to his winter home, Ca’ d’Zan will give you a good feel for it.

The early part of the 20th century, for the most part, were good times for John and Mable Ringling, and by the mid-1920s, they were in the midst of building their summer home on the Sarasota Bay. Completed in 1926 at a cost of $1.5 million (more than $22.2 million in today’s money), Ca’ d’Zan was a place where the fun-loving couple could bring their friends and family and enjoy the beautiful, growing town of Sarasota and the clear waters around it.
