Florida Blue answers the Answer Man

On Oct. 28, the Sun published an Answer Man column detailing the Florida Blue insurance sticker shock suffered by Jim Brogan of Port Charlotte when he found that his Medicare Part D supplemental drug policy rates would jump from less than $200 in 2013 to almost $4,000 in 2014.

Brogan, 79, told the AM that he and his wife have 16 prescriptions, 14 of which were free this year, and the other two costing a total of $192. The problem, he said, was that the 16 drugs, classified at either Tier 1 or Tier 2 by Blue — thus all free or at minimal cost — were elevated to Tier 4 for 2014.
