New acquaintances enrich our lives, but old friends frequently are the most rewarding. It proved that way with some of my reading over the holidays.
First, an old friend. It has been about 30 years since I first enjoyed Patrick G. Smith’s Florida novel “A Land Remembered.” For Christmas I received an autographed copy of a Pineapple Press reissue of this epic tale. It is the story of three generations of a pioneer Florida family who migrated from Georgia to the palmetto scrub and swampland somewhere above present-day Kissimmee.
