With the rebound in new home construction and remodeling, contractors are facing a labor crunch. The problem is particularly acute in Charlotte County, which is experiencing a growing wage gap compared with neighboring Sarasota County, even as demand for jobs soars.

The Charlotte-DeSoto Building Industry Association is fielding calls from contractors on a daily basis, looking for leads on prospective employees. To help fill the positions, the builders group has scheduled a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at its 17984 Toledo Blade Blvd., office in Port Charlotte.
