A coalition of developers and their allies has apparently persuaded Charlotte County to consider a massive rewrite of the county comprehensive plan that became effective just three years ago.

The proposed rewrite, among other things, would remove wetland protections, remove Coastal High Hazard Area protections, encourage strip commercial development, delete protections against the transfer of density units (thus allowing increases in density without significant standards), and delete requirements to consider minimizing water use, groundwater recharge, water quality, water flow timing, wildlife corridors and natural areas, coastal area considerations, flood zones and floodplains.
