Last week I wrote about the challenges of older neighborhoods and the tendency of those areas to become blighted. Detroit didn’t act fast enough. Now Detroit has a blight epidemic.
Readers responded. One area of strong response was about “those people.” Those people who live in “that area” just don’t care. Only with higher neighborhood standards and vigorous code enforcement can we ever do anything about potential blight. While I agree higher standards and better code enforcement would help, I think it is only part of the solution.
