Almost every time people in Charlotte County meet one another for the first time, they ask, “Were you here for Charley?” If your response is, “Who is Charley?” we can assume that you were not here. For those of us who were here Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 — and even for some who arrived soon after — so many references of other occasions in our lives are based on “before Charley or after Charley.”
At 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association, 2001 Shreve St., the Lifelong Learning Institute and the PGICA will present a historical program on this storm. Jackie Brown, historian with the Charlotte County Historical Center and class instructor for LLI, will present facts, stories and photos from the traveling exhibit “Rising from the Rubble.”
